How Can I Clean My Home & Reduce Allergy Suffering?
Allergy symptoms at home? Learn how cleaning with ClO₂ (Envirotab), microfiber, and HEPA vacuums can reduce allergens and help you breathe easier — without harsh chemicals.

Are You Among the 40% of Americans Who Suffer from Allergies? We're here to help.

If you're one of the millions of Americans who suffer from allergies, you’ve likely asked yourself: Is there something more I could be doing at home to feel better? The answer is yes — and it’s not as complicated as you might think.

Allergens like dust mites, pet dander, mold spores, and pollen accumulate quickly inside your home, especially on horizontal surfaces and in upholstered furniture and carpets. A few strategic cleaning choices can make a real difference in your daily comfort. Here’s how to clean more effectively — and breathe more freely.

1. Clean Hard Surfaces with Microfiber and ClO₂

Horizontal surfaces like shelves, countertops, baseboards, and windowsills are prime locations for allergens to settle. Regular cleaning is key, but how you clean matters just as much as how often.

Why Microfiber and ClO₂ Work:

  • Microfiber cloths trap dust and allergens more efficiently than cotton rags or paper towels.
  • Chlorine dioxide (ClO₂) at 100ppm (such as with Envirotab 1g tablets) offers powerful antimicrobial and allergen-neutralizing properties without harsh chemical residue or strong odors.

Tip: Mix Envirotab solution to the recommended 100ppm concentration and use it to lightly dampen your microfiber cloth. Wipe all horizontal surfaces at least twice a week. A great way to get started is with our Envirotab Large Starter Kit.

2. Clean Floors with Microfiber (Hard Floors ) & HEPA Canisters or Backpack Vacs

Vacuuming isn’t just for carpets — allergens also cling to upholstery, drapes, and even hard floors. But the type of vacuum you use can make or break your efforts. Only canisters and backpacks can force allergens to pass through a filter instead of wafting back up into the air. Microfiber Mops, like or ergonomic BioClean Rocker Mop are also great ways to clean hard floor surfaces and can be used with Envirotab tablets.

Choose:

  • A Microfiber Mop that is comfortable to use and highly effective at picking up dust, dander and other allergens that settled on the floor.
  • A HEPA filtration canister vacuum or HEPA backpack vac, which captures 99.97% of particles as small as 0.3 microns.

Avoid:

  • Upright vacuums (they often leak dust back into the air).
  • Dust mops, which just push allergens around.
  • Fragrant or surfactant-heavy cleaners, which can irritate airways and worsen allergic responses.

Bonus Tip: Vacuum carpets, rugs, and upholstery at least once a week. More if you have pets. We heartily recommend our Turbo Canister Vac.

3. Eliminate Allergy-Triggering Cleaning Products

It’s tempting to reach for lemon-fresh sprays and “deep-cleaning” liquids — but many of these contain volatile organic compounds (VOCs), artificial fragrances, and sticky surfactants that attract dust and irritate sensitive sinuses.

What to Avoid:

  • Air fresheners, even “natural” ones
  • Cleaners with labels like “pine-scented” or “spring breeze”
  • Anything that leaves a shiny or sticky residue

Choose Instead:

  • Hypoallergenic, fragrance-free products
  • ClO₂-based cleaners (like Envirotab)
  • Simple formulas with no residue

Conclusion: Clean Smart, Breathe Easy

You don’t need to spend hours scrubbing to reduce allergens at home — just shift your cleaning strategy. Use microfiber cloths and ClO₂ for hard surfaces, upgrade to a HEPA-filtered vacuum, and avoid irritating cleaners. With a little knowledge and a few smart tools, you can create a space that supports your health and helps you breathe easier every day.
