Understanding the Cleaning Basics

Stop Letting Your Staff Clean by Accident

Cleaning in America is often seen as a menial task that is underappreciated and undervalued. Cleaners, housekeepers, and custodians are often viewed as low-skilled workers who are simply given a few tools and expected to clean without any proper training or understanding of the science behind cleaning. They are not seen as professional engineers or technicians who have a deep understanding of their craft. As a result, they are often overlooked and taken for granted. Without proper training and education on the importance of cleaning and the science behind it, these workers are unable to perform their jobs effectively and efficiently. It is crucial that we recognize the importance of cleaning and provide these workers with the training and resources they need to succeed.

This is not a shortcoming of staff, but of management. No cleaning technician should be released into the workplace without knowing 'why' to clean along with 'how' to clean. Make them professional engineers and protectors of public health, then dispatch them to change cleaning forever.

Synergy Americas, in partnership with the Green Clean Institute are determined to correct this travesty.

Isn't The Real Answer to Infection Prevention Found in Cleaning?

In this video from the early days of Covid, we challenged the world to rethink a plan of spreading potentially toxic and developmentally disruptive chemicals found in traditional disinfectants with a plan that employed a more commonsense approach - clean thoroughly with microfiber and low-to-no-residue ACD - Aqueous Chlorine Dioxide.

It's still the best approach to germ control, remove the soil and remove the bioburden from environmental touch surface.

Mastering the Art of Cleaning - A Video Training Series

Video 1: Size Matters

In this video, we discuss one of the first principles of cleaning - the size of soils that must be removed for a surface or area to be 'clean'. The removal process is to be systematic and complete.

Video 2: Soil Type Matters

In this video, we discuss the second principles of cleaning - the type of soils that must be removed for a surface or area to be 'clean'. The removal process is completely dependent upon the soil type.

Video 3: 3 Actions of Cleaning

In this video, we discuss the third principles of cleaning - that there are three distinct forces that once can call into play to achieve best results in cleaning. We refer to these as the 'Three Actions of Cleaning'.

Video 4: The Role of Water

Water has been described as the Universal Solvent and well as the Essential Vehicle in cleaning. Both descriptions are perfectly true.

In this video, we discuss the role that water plays in moving the soil, grime and bioburden from where you DON'T want it (on the surfaces) to where you DO want it (in the waste stream).

Video 5: The Role of Dwell-Time

In this video we discuss how dwell-time can be your best friend or worst enemy. When cleaning for soil removal, dwell-time - coupled with full extraction of water, detergent and soil is great! Just don't let it dry. With disinfectants, follow the directions to the 'T' - that's CxT = [the right] Concentration X [the right] Time.

Video 6: The Power of Enzymes

In this video in the series, we take a slightly deeper look at the role of enzymes in cleaning, with an overview of the 5 types of enzymes found in Synergy Consume and Synergy BioClean. Consume is used in areas where only deodorizing is required (soil is only organic) and BioClean is used for blended soils.
