Deep Cleaning a Hot Tub with Soil Break & Envirotab ClO2
Take your hot tub maintenance to the next level with a periodic deep clean using Soil Break and ClO2 by Envirotab — the ultimate duo for spa sanitation.

Why Routine Hot Tub Water Sanitation Isn’t Enough

Even the most meticulous daily maintenance can’t stop the slow buildup of oils, lotions, biofilms, and contaminants that embed themselves in a hot tub’s plumbing, jets, and acrylic surfaces over time. These accumulations not only reduce sanitizer effectiveness — they also create the perfect hiding place for pathogens like Legionella, Pseudomonas, and Mycobacterium avium.

That’s why regular deep cleaning is essential, whether you own a spa at home or manage one in a rental or commercial setting. The best way to achieve this? A two-stage cleaning system using Envirotab chlorine dioxide and Synergy Soil Break, designed to lift, oxidize, and remove embedded contaminants.

What Is Soil Break + ClO₂ and Why Is It So Effective?

Hot Tub Cleaning Pair

Used together, Envirotab and Soil Break form a high-performance cleaning system:

  • Envirotab ClO₂: Breaks down organic contamination and oxidizes microbial threats without leaving harmful residues. Penetrates plumbing lines and jet internals.
  • Soil Break: A non-toxic, non-foaming, proprietary surface cleaner that lifts oils, dead skin cells, cosmetics, and other bio-matter from spa surfaces. Synergy Soil Break was designed to complement and work harmoniously with Chlorine Dioxide.

This combination cleans deep below the surface, restoring shine and eliminating invisible threats that ordinary maintenance misses.

When Should You Deep Clean Your Hot Tub?

  • Residential hot tubs: Every 4–6 weeks
  • Vacation rental or commercial tubs: Every 2–4 weeks or between long guest stays
  • Signs you need a deep clean:
    • Persistent cloudiness or odor
    • Biofilm rings or sticky jet internals
    • Reduced sanitizer effectiveness
    • Heavy guest use over a weekend

Step-by-Step: How to Deep Clean a Hot Tub Using Envirotab + Soil Break

Step 1: Prepare the Cleaning Solution

In a 5-gallon pail or foam sprayer:

  1. Dissolve one 10-gram Envirotab tablet into 4 gallons of clean water.

    • Stir gently until fully dissolved (~2–3 minutes).

  2. Add 4 ounces of Soil Break to the dissolved ClO₂ solution.

    • Stir again to integrate the solution.

✅ This pre-activation ensures the solution is ready to begin breaking down surface contaminants as soon as it’s applied.

Step 2: Pre-Treat the Spa Shell

  • Using a pump sprayer, foamer, or manual application, spray the solution generously across all interior surfaces: the shell, seats, headrests, skimmer area, and the inside of the cover.

  • Allow to dwell for 30 seconds to begin lifting surface oils and film.

  • Agitate gently with a soft-bristle brush or non-abrasive scrub pad to remove grime.

    • Pay special attention to the waterline, jet nozzles, and corners.

Step 3: Fill and Flush the System

  • Turn on water and begin filling the tub to just above the highest set of jets.

  • As the tub fills, pour the remaining cleaning solution into the water.

    • This allows the ClO₂ and Soil Break blend to treat the plumbing system internally.

  • Once full, activate all jets and blowers for 3–5 minutes to circulate the solution.

  • While jets are running, use a dry microfiber cloth to wipe all above-waterline surfaces, removing lifted residues and ensuring nothing dries back onto the shell.

Step 4: Drain and Final Wipe-Down

  • Turn off jets and drain the spa completely.

  • Once drained, use fresh microfiber towels to wipe down every surface thoroughly.

    • This step removes any remaining soil or film.

    • Leaves the tub dry, streak-free, and sparkling clean.

Pro Tip: Microfiber is essential here — it traps residues without scratching acrylic surfaces, ensuring a polished finish.

Why You’ll Notice the Difference

After your deep clean, you’ll immediately see and feel the benefits:

  • Smoother, brighter surfaces
  • No residual film or greasy feel
  • Improved sanitizer performance
  • Jet and filter function restored
  • Zero lingering odors
  • Happier, healthier bathers

Plus, you're extending the life of your spa equipment by preventing scale and buildup.
